LAKELAND PUBLIC LIBRARY

About this collection

The Railroad Photo Collection documents railroad and railroad related activities in and near Lakeland, Florida from the early 1920s to the 1970s. The bulk of the photographs are of Atlantic Coast Line Railroad locomotives, other rolling stock, depots, and rail yards. There are in particular a number of photos of steam locomotives from theĀ 1930s and 1940s. Also included are a number of photos of the train depot and rail yard that were just north of Munn Park in downtown Lakeland until 1960. There are also photos of the train depot after it was moved out of downtown Lakeland to the New Tampa Highway site.

The photos were donated to the Special Collections unit of the Lakeland Public Library by former Lakeland resident and railroad aficionado Richard Kearns.
